Congratulations to Sandra Knauf, finalist in the 2019 North Street Book Prize!
On February 15, 2020 Colorado Springs author Sandra Knauf was announced as a Finalist in the 2019 North Street Book Prize. She received recognition for her self-published memoir Please Don’t Piss on the Petunias: Stories About Raising Kids, Crops, and Critters in the City. Out of 1,657 entries, there were 22 self-published books that received awards and recognition. Sandra said that the very first story she wrote for this memoir was “The Chicken Chronicles,” which was submitted to the 2000 Pikes Peak Writers Contest and won first place in Creative Nonfiction.
Sandra Knauf has been a “Colorado Voices” columnist for The Denver Post and her writing has appeared in Colorado Gardener and national publications such as GreenPrints and MaryJanesFarm Magazine. She’s also been a guest commentator on KRCC’s (a NPR affiliate station) “Western Skies” show. In 2011 she created Greenwoman Publishing and has since published a garden writing journal, Greenwoman: Vols. I-6; her YA fantasy novel, Zera and the Green Man; an anthology of sexy gardening stories (Fifty Shades of Green); and, in 2019, her gardening memoir, Please Don’t Piss on the Petunias: Raising Kids, Crops, and Critters in the City.
